Cancer disease characterized by uncontrolled cell division and the ability of these cells to invade other tissues, either by direct growth into adjacent tissue (invasion) or by migration of cells to distant sites (metastasis). This unregulated growth is caused by a series of acquired or inherited mutations to DNA within cells, damaging genetic information that define the cell functions and removing normal control of cell division. Cancer has become one of the 10th leading cause of death in India According to the estimates from National Cancer Registry Program of ICMR, there are approximately 2.5 million cases of cancer in India at any given point of time and about 0.8 million new cases occur every year. Nearly 0.4 million patients die due to the disease each year. At least, one-third of all cancers can be prevented and other one-third can be detected well in time and treated. Among the remaining one-third cancer cases palliative and supportive care is the only option.
