Our embassies in various countries are dead, as far as trade promotion of handicrafts is concerned. The export promotion bodies in India merely work as intermediate rent seeker asking more and more drawback on items which do not involve any duty elements in its construction or manufacturing. The Indian diaspora in other countries forms the biggest group of people normally known as NRI’s. Every year there are conclaves for NRI’s and PIOS where lots of money is spent but none of the group promotes Indian handicraft in their resident countries.

Role of our banks are worst, if the Manager is highly qualified he will help the NRI’s to swindle crores of rupees and if he is under-qualified, he will resort to money laundering.

Everybody is talking of retail boom but no one has proposed to reserve space in shopping mall for owns country’s handicrafts. Even foreigners are looted by so called cottage textorium which gives the impression that they belongs to government. No one has ever created ‘India Town’ in foreign lands to increase the consumption of Indian Goods. Though in our own country, we have China Town.

Who is responsible for our dismal state of affair for handicrafts sector? There are poor illiterate people having superior human skill who are ignored, looted and cheated by middlemen in the form of handicrafts promotion bodies. This country produce thousands of varieties of textiles, wooden crafts and other handicrafts goods which are rated best by the West. These do not contain any harmful material except the perspiration of hard work. Even these products are being targeted by West that give us the certificate that handicrafts are the product of sustainable forest. Wake Up India! Wake Up! Your handicraft is the next target of Environment policy of imperialist.
