Regional :-  Ashok Malhotra scam forced cancellation of 7000 plots by MCD
UTS Voice

The allotments in Narela and Bawana include allocations made to rehabilitate slum dwellers from the Yamuna Pushta slums nearly three years ago.

“Plots are allotted to slum dwellers after we demolish their hutment,” an MCD official said. “The slum dweller is supposed to occupy the plot within a month of the land being handed over. But if the dweller does not construct house on the allotted plot (within a month), it implies that he does not need the plot.”

As reported, Molarbandh phase-II is amidst a flurry of construction activity being carried out on nearly 500 plots that were allegedly sold to private builders and dealers. These plots were lying vacant since 2002.

The construction frenzy built up pace after Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna’s announcement to freeze all allotments, and allot them only on lease, following the Ashok Malhotra land scam.
