Medicine or Death: Dilemma of AIDS patient in Mumbai
By Leslie V Pereira
Mumbai: The lives of more than 250 HIV positive patients admitted to the National Aids control Organization (NACO) clinic at J.J. Hospital are in danger. The patients obtained fake test results to avail of free Anti Retro Viral Therapy (ART) at NACO’s Clinic between December 31, 2005 and March this year.
The Death paddler who is a ward boy attached to J.J. Hospital, Mumbai along with the help of SRL Ranbaxy Collection Center located in front of the Hospital gives H.I.V. patient fake certificates for monetary gains, but the effect of over medication can be deadly to their compromised immune system.
The modus operandi was that the patients SC4 counts was Calibrated. This was done in collusion with the staff of blood collection center, CD4 is the basic test for monitoring of H.I.V. patients for prognosis of disease. The signature pasted on the reports of the patients.
It has been also learnt that since NACO is highly flooded with funds is not properly used against those AIDS patients as required who has been treated with ART which is likely to be causing damage to major organs of body like Kidney, Liver, etc. due to false CD4 counts. The modus operandi of the Doctor and her accomplices are by manipulating CD4 counts of the AIDS patients through the Laboratories for enrolment of ART treatment and by doing so as stated above one of her ward boy namely Chetan Thakur attached to her office has been facing inquiry from 13th March, 2007 onwards which is pending for having committed the illegal activities at the instance of the Doctor and her accomplices and thereby the image of NACO has been lowered down in the eyes of the right thinking members of the Society in particular and spirited charity organisation in International level in general and there is a apprehension that the very purpose of NACO may defeat at the hands. The patients were diagnosed with higher HIV Viral load instead of their actual status,
